Accountability: The Exit Interview

Today, like many Husker fans around the globe, I feel an excitement in the pit of my stomach. Sure we are playing Colorado and the passion for the rivalry get's me pumped. However, in the back of my mind I know how Bill is feeling about his job security...and it makes me feel better. Am I a sadist?

Maybe it's what he did to our program or maybe it's his overall attitude at press conferences, but as Bill possibly prepares to leave his mansion in Lincoln, you just kind of wonder if he ever realized what he was getting into as the Nebraska head coach.

Many say that he is just outspoken and a terribly nice guy, but when you coach for a team like Nebraska, shouldn't part of your job be public relations? Yes Bill...it's not weird that fans get upset when you allow 76 points in a game. Defense was a requirement on the team when we hired you. Watching the pre-game today on KETV in Omaha, I got to take in how a real Husker feels on the situation.

Jason Peter poured his heart and soul into our program, along with also almost ruining his life with drug addiction related back to his playing days and his constant need to excel. Jason co-hosted the pre-game show and brought up great points on Bill, especially his comments relating to his successes as the Nebraska head coach.

The biggest of which was commenting on how his "west coast system" is working, turning out and developing players such as Zach Taylor, Sam Keller and Joe Ganz? Bill also seems to have hung his hat lately on the fact "his" offense is ranked 18th nationally and 12th in passing offense. He seems to be searching...for what I have no idea.

Jason Peter reacted to these comments almost exactly the way I would have. Which leads to me to believe that I am not alone in the way I feel. Bill has NEVER stood up and taken blame for what he has done on his own shoulders. He has only passed blame onto assistant coaches and his players. If this great outspoken coach could have just stepped up a couple times and said "hey, this is my fault...I just didn't get us prepared for the game," maybe the fans would be more accepting of him.

We aren't stupid Bill. There have been coaches that have been fired for doing much less to our program, then what you have done (Frankie Solich). My whole point is we need to watch Bill's reaction today. He knows his job is over. The same situation arose at Oakland, when as the Raider's head coach, many people, including PLAYERS, accused him of "sabotaging" games. Be mindful of this as you watch us take on the Buffaloes, along with when Bill gives any post-game interviews or press conferences.

Win or lose, we have already hopefully done both. We have won the battle for our right to a new coach and we should be losing an overpaid coaching staff tomorrow.

So since the beginning of Nebraska's five loss run, I have heard that everyone from Stone Phillips to the guy in the Bush's Baked Beans commercials with the talking dog, will be Nebraska's next head football coach.

Since everyone has been liberally throwing names around, we at BillCallahanSucks.com figured it was time to make a list of our favs. Using complicated algorithms and placing a few calls to Beano Cook's neck flab, we have formulated a video-breakdown of the top ten candidates for the Nebraska head coaching position.

Most people outside of the Nebraska fan base are not going to know who this kid is. Joe Ganz, is the starting Quarterback for Nebraska. Joe Ganz is the single game record holder in 4 different passing categories (yards – 510, completions – 30, Touchdowns – 7, Touchdown to Interceptions ratio – 7 to 0.) Currently a Redshirt Junior, Ganz makes one wonder, what could have been. Ganz not only makes the fans wonder, but the coaching staff. With the current regime all but fired, could Ganz have single handedly saved their jobs, dignity and reputations had he been the full-time starter? Or did the extensive relationship Callahan had with Sam Keller’s father play a larger role than we thought?

In the two games that Ganz has started, he as 11 TDs and 4 INTs; in the 9 games Sam Keller has started, he has 14 TDs and 9 INTs. The major difference the average fan will see is the overall athletic difference in the two QBs. Ganz faster, more mobile, the Brett Farve like Gun-Slinger. Keller, the strong arm, picturesque statue in the pocket, a-la Dan Marino. Now what the average fan might not see is the difference in the heads of each player. Ganz, confident in going down field, trying to fit throws in a small window and knowing where all the receivers are. Keller, the consummate check-down QB, nervous to throw down field and unable to make plays with his feet.

Under Keller, Marlon Lucky was the leading receiver with 67 receptions, 21 more than Mo Purify who is the second leading receiver. Under Ganz, Purify has 13 receptions, 245 yards receiving and 3 TDs. Under Ganz, Franz Hardy and Terrance Nunn have TD receptions. Under Ganz, Nebraska offense looks as it was advertised 4 years ago. Under Ganz, Callahan might have a job next year.

Unfortunately when being a Nebraska football fan, there are just some things you have to take in stride. For instance, in the early 90's we dealt with the fact that we "never" played anyone good, had a slow defense and never won bowl games. Things got better though and hopefully that serves true for the next coach to hold the throne in Lincoln.

This week we watched on as the current jester acting as a coach finally took the Skers back into the winner's circle after five straight losses. In an obvious display to other lackluster program's around the country who have a head coach vacancy, Callahan showed his offensive genius while laying 73 points on lowly K-State. I turned the game off before halftime.

What I don't need to see Bill do, since he has already crapped all over our program, is use it to exploit himself for his next coaching job. I pray that other colleges can see how Bill has delivered for us. Especially this season, when even this late we are still seeing huge gaps with the decisions he has made.

Hey I was as big of a Sam Keller fan as the next guy, but what did he ever do besides leads an ASU team to an almost victory against USC? I am ashamed to say that because of Bill Callahan, I have seen more of Danny Gans then Joe Ganz this season. For the time being let's just follow Dr.Tom's lead in mentally torturing Bill by leaving him in limbo.

As the moon made its way into the sky and the chill of fall crept throughout the state of Nebraska last Saturday night, one thing was most certainly certain, Bill, it is definitely time to go. Now, two other things are for certain as well; this is not going to be a clean and easy project, and the players of Nebraska have to play for Nebraska and not for themselves to get in the NFL, if you are good enough they will find you.

Bill is the kind of guy who will stay put until he is physically forced out of the buildings, put into his Ford Taurus to drive home to his house in Los Angeles, and be re-united with his brother Jeff (the Big Lebowski). See Billy still does not think that there is a problem. He still believes in his game plans and supports his coaching staff. Bill acknowledged that Kansas is a tough team, sure they are playing good football, but 76 points? Christ Bill, that is the most points scored on Nebraska in the one-hundred year history of it's program!

You are a disgrace to yourself and anyone who ever believed that maybe somehow you were going to be the coach that you insisted you are and could be. You will be lucky to ever coach again and God knows that it will never be a head coaching job, that is for certain. If you had any self respect you would pack your Taurus tomorrow night and slip out into the darkness. Just do not forget your coffee, your beige sweater, Steve Pedersen, Kevin Cosgrove, Jim Rose, Sam Keller and all of those stupid Restore The Order and the Power of Red posters, we never needed them and never wanted them.

Really we only want a few things: a coach to believe in, Defense, a running game (maybe some option), and players that have the heart to give their all to try and win the game!

Big 12 Player Of The Week

Kevin Cosgrove is the Big XII Offesive Player of the Week. Cosgrove had 572 yards on 90 plays against the University of Nebraska. After the game Kansas Coach Mark Mangino thanked Cosgrove for the lack of hard work he did in preparation during the week. Along with the 572 yards, Cosgrove broke yet another record with 76 points (48 at halftime) in a single game.

According to Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy's and an avid KU/MU/NU supporter, a Cosgrove-Burger promotion is in the works due to Cosgrove's recent honor of being Player of the Week. The burger will be available at all Wendy's locations in the Big 12 conference area on Saturday afternoons. The burger itself will feature smoked bacon and burnt buns, not unlike Nebraska's defensive secondary that gets smoked and burnt each week.

*Special note on the actual Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week:
As stated by Omaha.com..."When Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel was named Big 12 offensive player of the week, it snapped a streak of four straight Mondays where the winner was pulled from the offense playing Nebraska two days before."

**Jim Rose rumors. Sure you can believe he really missed calling the KU/NU game, the Bill Callahan show and his shows on KFAB, for personal reasons. Just know that he won't be back...and you heard it here first!

The Kansas Experience

We at BillCallahanSucks.com felt that this would be a great week for field research on our beloved and terrible Cornhuskers. What better week to turn around our spirits, right? KU, while undefeated, had yet to really play any top-tier team and with Joe Ganz at the helm the opportunity to pull out a big red victory seemed like a possibility.

Below is a slightly accurate time-line of events that occurred during The Kansas Experience.

11.03.07

2:32am - After a long night of war-room like strategic chatter at various establishments, including the world famous Cigar Box, the BCS.com team decides to rest their livers for the next 4 hours.

6:40am - With hangovers and horse-voices in full effect, the BCS.com team awakens to the realization that 50% of their ticket allotment seems to be missing. Calls are made and search parties are organized.

7:14am - Forensic research leads the BCS.com team to a pine-tree located outside of the BCS.com world headquarters. A mysterious envelope labeled "Nebraska," containing the missing tickets, is located. BCS.com mutually agrees and believes Maker's Mark Whiskey to be at fault for the mishap.

7:48am - The BCS.com team picks up the final addition for The Kansas Experience, Big Ten Ben, and the trek to Lawrence ensues. Rockstar Energy Drinks with Vodka are consumed in festive Halloween Boo mugs.

8:37am - The BCS.com team arrives in Lawrence and begins integrating with natives of the University. The team quickly associates itself with other a Husker tailgaters by purchasing an inexpensive parking spot for $50 at a fraternity house. (Very good deal)

9:28am - As research is conducted the BCS.com team quickly learns many Jayhawk fans are quite nice. With a school that's football team is more than likely going to win the national championship and strong fan-base of mock turtle-neck wearers, why wouldn't you be?

10:21am - Reports begin to surface that Osborne has instituted the option attack back into the offensive scheme. The BCS.com team decides to try and re-live mid-90s glory, riling up Huskers fans by creating a pseudo atmosphere not unlike 72nd and Dodge or O Street.

11:29am - The walk towards KU's high school football field is initiated. Good feelings are exchanged between all Jayhawk fans the BCS.com team has contact with.

11:49am - Points.

12:31pm - It becomes apparent to this reporter that Bill and Cosgrove had the Husker D watching quite a bit of film in preparation for the Jayhawks. Film's with Bette Midler are Callahan's favorite.

1:17pm - As the first half comes to an end, the other half of the BCS.com team wakes up to take the score in. Seeing it he thinks the game is over and returns to slumber.

2:14pm - Somewhere in the ESPN studios Lou Holtz begins to spit on his co-workers.

2:29pm - The BCS.com team conducts interviews with some of the KU fan base, while it exits the shadows of the stadium. Upon interviewing one female student, another BCS.com reporter was pushed down a hill, incurring some grass stains on his Callahan-like-beige-press-conference-sweater.

3:11pm - More crack and vodka is consumed, as the West Coast Offense's flaws are discussed with any fan in the vicinity of a 60 foot radius. Many agree Callahan has done a terrific job....ruining a program.

3:34pm - The "Drive Of Shame," begins as the exodus from Lawrence starts. Some possible obscenities are exchanged with basically anyone with blue on that will listen.

Current time today - The 76 points put up by Kansas are still inflecting pain within the lower intestinal region of the BCS.com crew....luckily Notre Dame lost to Navy, which makes the whole day seem worth while.

There are several people still close to Steve Pederson in his administrative staff and provided the following information from TO's office comings and goings.

Bo will be named head coach within days of the Colorado game if LSU is not in the SEC championship game. If they are they will string it out for a week talking about reviewing options etc. Then once Bo is named he can move quickly on getting with some of the recruits and keeping them in place. Bill Busch will be retained in some position to assist with this turnover.

Although rough around the edges Tom thinks Bo reminds him of a Bob Devaney type and does not feel the new coach has to be just like he was.

Tom Rathman who is now the RB coach for Lane Kniffen has been contacted by Bo Pellini and asked about taking the offensive coordinator job at Nebraska next year. The connections with Pellini and the kniffens has facilitated this possibly happening. TO however is possibly interested in keeping Watson but of course is open to letting Bo select some of the staff and as Rathman is a Nebraska guy he may get the nod.

Bo is holding the D-coordinator job open at this point in hopes of getting Mike Stoops if he does not go back to Oklahoma. If not he is hoping that Marvin Sanders can find a way out of the contract to take the position. (His current contract allows him to vest in the State of NC Pension plan and that is why he has not started working anywhere else yet.). Scott Frost will be brought back from Northern Iowa to coach defense in some way and to spearhead Nebraska in state recruiting primarily for the walk-on program. The new Tight ends coach will be retained possibly, he is a little familiar with Bo through some Ohio State connection.

Most of the current staff will be relieved at the end of the season if not before, it could be as early as Sunday depending on the drive and motivation. Most of the team expressed willingness to help out with coaching through the end of the year.

Strength and conditioning coach will leave as well and Bailey will come back from USC, he loved Lincoln and is not as happy with living in LA. although is being well paid by USC. Doak Ostergard, Paul Miles and Paul Meyers have all been asked to return at the end of the year as well.

Look for many ex-huskers to be on hand on the sideline trying very hard over the next several weeks to get these old players talking with the current players and getting the husker pride back.

We were looking to include something about TO into the tunnel walk although Tom has asked us not to do it and to keep the focus on the team.

Throughout his tenure at Lincoln, Bill Callahan has done many wonderful things. He has resurrected his acting career....he has put together one of the most potent offensive juggernauts in college football history...all while trying to live a normal life in Nebraska.

With his star quarterback now out for the year, Bill has made an unbelievable coaching decision, in what is possibly his final season as the Cornhusker's head coach. Bill plans on donating his right arm and shoulder to Sam Keller and giving the rest of his body to science.

He will become RoboCoach. A coach that automatically gives great speeches and a coach that answers to no one.

Callahan's West Coast Turns Out To Be French Toast Instead Of Texas Toast

The Huskers showed us that they still have the ability to have a game won and then blow it in the final quarter. A skill most of us thought was lost over the past three weeks after getting kicked square in the nuts by USC, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.

Now with Texas giving us the golden toe to the crown jewels, Nebraska has now lost 4 games in a row for the first time since 1961.

I can't decide what my favorite part of the game was though. There of course was the awkward exchange between Jack Arute(awesome hair)and Joba Chamberlain. Then there was the focusing on how well our defense was doing, handling the below average Texas offense through three quarters.

But I think I am going to have to take the traditionalistic approach and say once again the best part is always listening to how the networks cover Nebraska football. You almost get the feeling that the sports world is content now that the mighty Huskers have fallen.

Growing up I always used to wonder why my dad would listen to his headphones while he watched Nebraska on tv, but now it is apparent. Maybe it's because we take our Big Red quite seriously or maybe it's because television broadcasters are complete jackasses,
but I just do not understand the overall negativity against us.

Call it a conspiracy theory, but being who we are, we just aren't a glamor team. I am not sure if that is why whenever a questionable call goes Nebraska's way, there is always a comment about why we should or shouldn't have gotten a flag. Maybe it's that I am biased, so let's just take an easy example...for instance the 1993 Orange Bowl.

Many fans would argue that we were flat-out robbed of giving Tom Osborne his first national title by some questionable calls in that game(Corey Dixon's punt return, Florida State's fumble on the goal-line, etc...). The rest of the nation sees it this way though:

We might as well just hire Craig Bohl back and get it over with.

Alright Nebraska. Time to shake off the dust and get back to basics. It is great to see that people are recognizing that our program is headed South like bank robbers to Mexico in a crappy movie. It is one thing to have local supporters cheer. But it is completely different when you throw some oversized glasses and a lisp into the equation. The Sultan of Spit, Lou Holtz, is cheering for Nebraska! If he can get behind the team, it won't be long until Bill Callahan does too!

They Need Our Support!

Alright folks, let's try to remember something. All we really have right now is each other as fans, so any embarrassing remarks reflect on all of us. As an out-of-state Husker I would especially appreciate it if you could keep the degrading of the players to a minimum. Don't forget these are just kids playing the game and executing a coach's gameplan.

The players were put into a system that really never had a chance. The team and the fans were both given false hope. I believe a majority of the problem does relate back to ol' Bill. Unfortunately his severe mouth tick gets in the way during his press conferences and he never admits any fault of his own.

Remember this is a Coach that was basically run out of his old job by his own team, of PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS, mind you.

We don't need Nebraska recruits to think that if they come and play football at Nebraska, we will do this to them!

I was in Lincoln this last weekend, not to see the Husker Football program, but to see the number ONE Husker Volleyball game. As everyone does we tailgated outside of the Devaney Center, drinking coffee and schnapps all day can only make one hungry. So I set out to get some food for everyone.

Now it is not everyday that you run into one person that you hate, but this reporter ran into two despicable individuals, who just happened to be in charge of salting fries at my dining destination.

You know that feeling you get when you know that you may have some spit in your burger? Well try trusting these two with your food. Known to our readers as Thelma and Louise, these are the very guys who are single handedly trying to destroy Nebraska one step at a time. Dr. Tom's First Day On The Job

It was a windy but clear day on the Nebraska plains when Tom Osborne stepped foot onto the Nebraska Cornhuskers football field. Players watched along with their coaches as he approached. No, this is not taken from some book or from the Journal Star back in 1995; this happened last Wednesday, Dr Tom Osborne’s first day as Interim Athletic Director at the University of Nebraska.

This is a testament to the value that Dr. Tom holds over the Nebraska Football team, the bread winner, the crème de la crème, the Transformers to everyone else’s Go-Bots. On his first day TO did something that let everyone know where he stands; he watched every minute of practice and took notes. From warm-ups to the claps at the end he watched. Note book in hand he watched. No doubt his shadow was casting down and engulfing the inadequate coaches on hand; ensnaring the players’ thoughts and drawing their attention.

At the end of practice, he walked. Not a word was said to coaches, players or other staff and personal. He just disappeared, back to his office in the building named after him and his wife. Back to contemplate the state of the program, but not just the program…the state of the State.

Even though Nebraska lost this past weekend, we all know that we have won by getting back the one person who knows HOW to bring us back. Welcome back Dr. Tom.

Texas A&M Loss Just Another Yamika In The Yamika Barrel

UNL plans on a heavy marketing campaign this holiday season when it releases it's line of Festive Yamikas comemmorating the Husker's 2007 losses.

So with Texas A&M giving Bill's team another loss, our current skid is at three games. During Bill's tenure there has actually only been one season the Cornhuskers did not have three losses in a row. Check it.

From corroborating sources it appears that Callahan, Cosgrove, Elmassian, and Wagner were all asked to resign over the weekend, again yesterday (BEFORE the press conference), andflatly refused, seeking not only the buyouts to which they'd be contractually entitled if fired, but actually seeking sweetened deals to get the hell out of Dodge. NU is working on a package whereby they would "resign" rather than be fired by Tom or Perlman.

There is a strong possibility that these four will be dismissed very soon. The interim plan has Shawn Watson as Offensive Coordinator, Bill Busch as Defensive Coordinator, and none other than CHARLIE MCBRIDE as interim Head Coach! Word is that George Darlington and Milt Tenopir might come on board on an interim basis, as well.

The remaining assistants: Gilmore, Rudolph, and Wyatt, along with Watson and Busch, would have opportunities for retention under a new Head Coach. One of the goals is to identify which recruits would be retained, so that any defections could be replaced well ahead of signing day, in order to salvage the 2007 class. Osborne apparently agreed to these plans in principle even before being named Athletic Director, and it could go down almost immediately, or could happen after Saturday's game.

Another tidbit:

Bo Pelini HAS been in contact with Osborne regarding the Head Coach position, and is VERY interested. He has reiterated his admiration of Marvin Sanders as a candidate for Defensive Coordinator. Some bits and pieces of this scenario have appeared elsewhere on the internet, but the sources used here are separate, and have yet to be wrong about recent goings on in Lincoln.

Let me stress this: The situation is very fluid, and there are lawyers deeply involved, so it may not go down as quickly as we might wish, and it may not ALL happen, as negotiations continue.

In 2001 Craig Bohl was the Defensive Coordinator at the University of Nebraska. At the time the Blackshirts were one of the most prestigious and feared defensives in college football. That was until the 2001 Colorado game at Folsom Field in Boulder, CO. In that game alone, Nebraska gave up 582 yards in total offense to a 14th ranked CU team. The following game, the BCS championship in Pasadena, CA; NU played the University of Miami and gave up 472 yards of total offense to one of the greatest teams ever assembled.

Enter Kevin Cosgrove. In 2007 alone, Cosgrove has surpassed those dubious numbers put up by Bohl. Against an overrated USC team, NU gave up 457 yards with a whopping 313 of those coming on the ground on just 38 carries, equaling 8.2 yards per carry. The following 4 games show Cosgrove’s inept abilities at the DC position plagued Nebraska. Against Ball State, NU game up 610 yards; against Iowa State (last offensively in the Big XII), NU gave up 415 on 102 plays; at Missouri, NU gave up 606 yards. Lastly, against Oklahoma State, NU gave up 551 yards of total offense. In the last 5 games, Nebraska has gone 2 and 3 and given up an average of 527.8 yards a game which would rank last in the nation.

So here is to Kevin Cosgrove…get the hell out of Lincoln. Can you give Bill a ride?

Is it true? Did it happen? Husker fans finally found what they were looking for walking down the Big Red Brick Road? He appeared to them in the form of an AD, The Wizard of Oz. Now that T.O. (the original T.O. just to clarify, not the one who is a jackass) is back in Husker athletics, look for a few changes. He already made it clear that no member of the coaching staff will be replaced during the season. My best guess, the announcement of a new coaching staff will come directly following the final whistle after NU defeats the St. Paul Wildcats in the class C football tournament after only surrendering 538 total yards.

Should Callahan be worried? Would you be worried if you were a field mouse leading smaller field mice around and then a Puma was thrown into the box to watch your every move? I would be, even though field mice are very elusive and quick to poop. But I digress. Look for the Wizard of Oz to implement a few changes to Husker football very soon. The one that might stand out is to look at game tape instead of the hit movie Condorman. Of course, if the defense could fly and/or drive around in a war machine/sportscar, we might have been able to stop Chase Daniels. Just a thought.

It's on folks. Tom Osborne has been named Interim Athletic Director for the University Of Nebraska. For many of us in the Husker nation this is as glorious a day since November 22nd, 2001. It was the following day the Sker's took on a Colorado team that beat us 62-36 and exposed the cracks in our Big Red foundation. Until that point we couldn't fathom anyone hanging a point total like that on us. It has been downhill ever since and over the last couple years we have just accepted it.

No more. It will take time to rebuild what we once had, but what better person to get us there then Dr.Tom. Don't expect the option attack to be in place by next game, but hopefully a spark has been ignited. Kudo's to the U for finally making a good move with the football program. Hopefully last week was the first and only time Husker fans will ever have to let their balloons go for a first down and not a touchdown.

The search is quitely on for a new head coach, one with Nebraska ties and a passion to win no matter what the consequences. Who better than an Omaha Westside graduate, who obviously coached Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway to a motion picture championship.

Championships are something that Bill has quite the grasp on (remember the anarchy that was his Oakland Raiders)? The following quote from Omaha's WOWT.com puts a nice finish on the Callahan/Pedersen era:

"In four seasons under Callahan, the Huskers are 26-18 overall, 14-14 against the Big 12, 3-8 against teams in the Top 25 and 0-6 against the Top 10. They have given up 40 points or more nine times, including four times this season." Full article here.

Oklahoma State Is The Kurt Rambis Of College Football.

Bill is a berry berry smart man. Not only did he help point out that the problems this year with the Skers aren't just his fault, but his players too...now he is implementing a new intiative to help get Red Big fans out of Mammo-real stadium in a more orderly fashion. I personally feel that he did a great job this week getting people to leave the stadium early to help prevent any traffic jams.

He helped coach a very even gameplan of about 5,000 fans leaving every 10 minutes, beginning at the end of the 1st quarter. Many attribute this accomplisment to the Oklahoma State college football dynasty that played Nebraska this weekend. It really isn't everyday you see a team that is able to hold a powerhouse like Oklahoma State to only 38 points in the first half.

Anyhow, being the West Coast thinker that he is, Bill has been able to strike a lucrative deal with a motorized cart company (one of the largest deals to date). The Callahan-Cart (see above) will offer any Cornhusker fan the opportunity to use a motorized cart to exit Mammo-real stadium at anytime after seven minutes left in the first quarter.

If it don't work...apparently don't fix it. We were able to obtain a copy of the Cosgrove's defensive practice schedule. We have a mole within the organization that cannot be revealed at this point in time. All we can say is that during the NU/Baylor game of 2000, the mole stole a whole box of Runzas from an eight year old trying to make change out of a twenty dollar bill. Cosgrove's defensive practice schedule is as follows.

8:15am - Homeroom/Role Call
8:30am - Defense 100A; "How to stop the run"
9:28am - Snack
10:15am - Recess
11:15am - Meeting (Topic: Personal Hygeine; Pro or Con?)
12:15pm - Lunch (only time they see a sack...lunch)

The Nebraska Cornhusker's football practice was delayed nearly 2 hours after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Callahan immediately suspended practice while Lincoln police and federal investigators were called to investigate. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to the players was the goal line. Practice was resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

Renovations Already Underway For A New Memorial Stadium?

BIll has been hard at work (or hardly workin) lately. Since he spent mucho of his time getting rid of that pesky option offense that the Huskers used to dominate the 90's, he now wants to move onto other renovations. His success with the new French Toast Offense, or as he calls it "West Coast Offense," serves as a benchmark on how he can turn things around.

He has been discussing his plans for an all new Memorial Stadium with another Football legend known for his charity work, the Cowboys of Dallas owner Jerry Jones. Bill and Jerry agree that the new Memorial Stadium should be modeled after Dallas's new stadium, which you can view here, with the exception that the giant video screen will play a constant loop of the hit series "Blossom" at all times.

Talent Doesn’t Equal Wins

Remember Bill Callahan’s first...Solich's first influenced recruiting class? Then in 2006, Callahan got two more kids, Jordan Congdon and Barry Turner. Want to know what they have in common? They were both named to the Rivals.com 2005 Freshman All-American team with guys like Pat White of West Virginia, Darren McFadden of Arkansas and Sydney Rice of South Carolina. I mean really?

Either the guys at the leading internet recruiting site have it all wrong or something is odd in Nebraska? Now guess what the aforementioned Nebraska players don’t have in common with the others; the possibility of making it to the NFL. With Rice already there and White and McFadden mentioned in Heisman talk, Congdon is no longer on the team and Barry Turner might be starting, but with Nebraska ranked 105th out of 119 teams in overall sacks, you have to wonder…were these kids better coached in High School?

I agree Callahan, sacks ARE overrated. Considering the fact that the Blackshirts, under Solich's recruits, recorded 50 sacks in 2005 (ranked #1 nationally), 32 in 2006 (#46 Nationally), and 6 in 2007 (Tied #105 nationally). But hey, why take away yards when giving makes you feel so much better?
